Tears, smiles and hugs were the order of the day in Ripon Saturday as some 200 girls from all over the region picked out prom dresses for their special graduation occasions – without paying a dime for the gowns.
RIPON — Smiling teenage girls continued to stream in and out of the former Ripon Drug Store building with spectacular prom gowns in hand – a gift of love.
RIPON – The crowd around the Marissa’s Closet booth at the Crossroads Street Fair was almost overwhelming for Melinda Shaw.
Photographs of a beaming teenager with her whole life before her decorate the living room of the comfortable home in Ripon, but the true memorial to Marissa McLeod hangs on three metal racks waiting to help other teens' dreams come true.

There was magic in the air as hundreds of engaged women from as far away as Red Bluff and Santa Rosa flocked to Marissa’s Closet in Ripon Saturday morning where new wedding gowns were being offered for a mere $50 to raise funds for the non-profit.
